Albizziin is a competitive inhibitor of aspartate synthetase and belongs to the class of amino acid analogs. Albizziin can be used to isolate Chinese hamster ovary cell mutants exhibiting altered levels of the target enzyme. These mutants can be classified into different categories based on their cross-resistance to beta-aspartate hydroxohydroxamic acid.
