alpha-Conotoxin BuIA is a paralytic peptide neurotoxin that acts as a competitive antagonist of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR), with inhibitory concentration 50 (IC50) values of 0.258 nM for alpha6/alpha3beta2, 1.54 nM for alpha6/alpha3beta4, and 5.72 nM for alpha3beta2. It serves to differentiate between nAChRs containing the beta2- and beta4-subunits and selectively inhibits alphaxbeta2 nAChRs, exhibiting a potency hierarchy of alpha6>alpha3>alpha2>alpha4 [1].
