Blepharotriol, a phenolic triterpene isolated from Maytenus blepharodes, exhibits antimicrobial activity, with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 8-4 µg/ml against Bacillus subtilis. It also demonstrates cytotoxic activity, with half-maximal inhibitory concentrations (IC50s) of 12.2 µM for HeLa cells, and greater than 20 µM for both Hep-2 and Vero cells [1].
