It contains an Azide group that can participate in copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition reactions (CuAAc) with molecules having Alkyne groups. Additionally, it can engage in strain-promoted azide-alkyne cycloaddition reactions (SPAAC) with molecules containing DBCO or BCN groups.
