It is effective against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobic bacteria. Trimethoprim holds potential for studying urinary tract infections, shigellosis, and pneumocystis pneumonia. When combined with zinc, Trimethoprim can inhibit influenza A virus in chicken embryos.
