Hyrtiosal, discovered in the marine sponge Hyrtios erectus, is an inhibitor of HIV-1 integrase (HIV-1IN) at the N-terminal domain (NTD), exhibiting an IC50 value of 9.60-0.86 µM. It binds to the Ser17, Trp19, and Lys34 sites on the NTD of HIV-1IN, thereby preventing the integration of HIV-1 viral DNA with the enzyme and disrupting the formation of the HIV-1 pre-integration complex. Hyrtiosal holds potential for research as an anti-HIV agent.
