()-Dehydroaltenusin is an antibiotic that serves as a selective inhibitor of eukaryotic DNA polymerase alpha (pol alpha), exhibiting an IC50 of 0.68 µM. It can be isolated from the fungus Alternaria tenuis. The compound competitively inhibits the activity of DNA template primers (Ki: 0.23 µM) and non-competitively inhibits the activity of 2-deoxyribonucleoside 5-triphosphate substrates (Ki: 0.18 µM). Additionally, ()-Dehydroaltenusin can induce S-phase cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in cancer cells and is applicable in research on cancers such as human adenocarcinoma.
