Cyclosporin D is a metabolite of Cyclosporin A, retaining the cyclic peptide structure of cyclosporins but exhibiting relatively weaker immunosuppressive activity. It is sometimes used as an internal standard or reference compound in analytical studies. Cyclosporin A inhibits Calcineurin activity, thereby blocking NFAT-mediated transcriptional activation and suppressing T cell activation.
