Laccase, Trametes versicolor (EC 1.10.3.2), is a blue copper oxidase that reduces molecular oxygen to water. It can oxidize polyphenols, methoxy-substituted phenolic compounds, and diamines, but not tyrosine. The oxidation reactions mediated by laccase involve single-electron transfers, generating free radicals.
