Proteasome subunit beta 2i (PSMB10) is one of the inducible beta subunits of the immuno 20S proteasome that catalyzes trypsin-like activity by cleaving after basic residues of polypeptides. The 20S proteasome has a barrel-like structure containing four stacked alphabetabetaalpha rings. Eeach alpha or beta ring conposes seven different proteins. beta1, beta2 and beta5 have peptidase activities that hydrolyze proteins. The corresponding catalytic subunits in immunoproteasomes are beta1i, beta2i and beta5i subunits. The 20S proteasome can assemble with other protein complexes that activate the 20S proteasome to degrade proteins.
