The major metabolite of Ethoxyquin. The major oxidation product of the antidegradant Ethoxyquin found in the muscle of Atlantic salmon. Ethoxyquin dimer is an antioxidant and metabolite of ethoxyquin.1 It prevents oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids in fish meal and fish oil. Dietary administration of ethoxyquin dimer (0.1, 0.3, and 0.5% w/w) induces microvesicular steatosis and hepatocyte necrosis, as well as increases liver levels of oxidized glutathione and total lipids in mice.2 Synonyms: 1,8-Di(1,2-dihydro-6-ethoxy-2,2,4-trimethylquinoline), 6,6-Diethoxy-1,2-dihydro-2,2,2,2,4,4-hexamethyl-1(2H),8-biquinoline, EQDM CAS No: 74681-77-9 Molecular Formula: C28H36N2O2 Molecular Weight: 432.6 Purity: 95% (HPLC) Appearance: Pale Yellow Solid Melting Point: 95-96C (lit) Solubility: Chloroform (Slightly), Methanol (Slightly, Heated) Method for Determining Identity: Proton NMR Spectroscopic and Mass Spectrometric Analysis TLC Conditions: SiO2, Hexanes: Ethyl Acetate = 9:1, Visualized with UV and KMnO4, Single spot, Rf=0.60 Elemental Analysis: Calculated: %C: 77.74, %H: 8.39, %N: 6.48 Storage and Stability: May be stored at RT for short-term only.
