Irisin is a recently described exercise-induced hormone secreted by skeletal muscle in mice and humans. Irisin activates beige fat cells (beige cells have a gene expression pattern distinct from either white or brown fat and are preferentially sensitive to the polypeptide hormone Irisin). Irisin is cleaved from the type I membrane protein FNDC5 and improves systemic metabolism by increasing energy expenditure. Neuroprotectant in Alzheimers disease. Amino Acud Sequence: Irisin (human, aa32-143/mouse, aa29-140) is FLAG-tagged at the N-terminus. Irisin has 100% identity between mouse, rat, monkey and human Biological Activity: Activates brown adipocyte markers Ucp1 and Cidec in murine subcutaneous adipocytes at 10ng/ml [Lit. 1]. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized and reconstituted products are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Further dilutions can be made in PBS, >0.1% BSA. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
