Cathepsin F, also known as CTSF, belongs to the cathepsin family. Cathepsins are papain family cysteine proteinases that represent a major component of the lysosomal proteolytic system. This protein is thought to play a role in normal protein catabolism, and because it is highly expressed in some cancer cell lines, it may be involved in degradative processes occurring during tumor progression. The CTSF gene may function as a tumor suppressor in Gastric cancer and may be a potential therapeutic target in the treatment of Gastric cancer. It also can be used as an alternative way to test for the disease known as Opisthorchis Viverrini. Recombinant human Cathepsin F protein, fused to His-Tag at C-terminal, was expressed in insect cell and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.
