Digitonin is a spirostanyl glycoside and a pentasaccharide derivative. It derives from a digitogenin. Digitonin is a mixture of four diffrent steriods obtained from Digitalis purpurea, used as a reagent in the determination of plasma cholesterol and steroids having a 3-hydroxyl group in beta configuration. It can also be used as Anticancer agent. Synonyms: (2alpha,3beta,5alpha,15beta,25R)-2,15-Dihydroxyspirostan-3-yl-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(13)-O-beta-D-galactopyranosyl-(12)-O-[beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(13)]-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(14)-beta-D-galactopyranoside, 3-[O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(13)-O-beta-D-galactopyranosyl-(12)-O-[beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(13)]-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(14)-beta-D-galactopyranoside]digitogenin, Spirostan beta-D-galactopyranoside deriv., Digitin, NSC 23471, NSC 237417 CAS No: 11024-24-1 Molecular Formula: C56H92O29 Molecular Weight: 1229.31 Appearance: Supplied as a white to pale yellow powder Melting Point: >227C (dec.)
