A cell-permeable, 8-prenyl flavone that is shown to induce differentiation of mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells into neuronal cells and astrocytes, at 100nM. It is shown to elicit the down-regulation of p38 and JNK phosphorylation, and the up-regulation of ERK phosphorylation. Co-treatment with GGTI-298 (1000nM), a Geranylgeranyltransferase I Inhibitor selectively abolishes the IBA- but not Retinoic Acid-induced neuronal differentiation, which suggests that the differentiation inducing effect may involve protein prenylation. Formula: C20H20O4 Molecular Weight: 324.4 Solubility: DMSO (100mg/ml clear, yellow solution) Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20C. Stable for 12 months at -20C. Reconstitute with sterile buffer or dH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
