Triacsin C is a natural product that belongs to the group of macrolide antibiotics. It has been shown to inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta), and IL-6, by binding to toll-like receptor 4. This drug also inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators, such as prostaglandin E2, in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Triacsin C has also been shown to have antihypertensive effects through its ability to bind to ATP binding cassette transporters and inhibit the uptake of diacylglycerol into primary cells. In addition, triacsin C has been shown to have cardioprotective effects by reducing myocardial infarct size in mice and suppressing xenograft tumor growth through inhibition of angiogenesis.
