Cytisine is an alkaloid found in plants of the Cytisus genus of the family Fabaceae. It is a partial agonist to alpha4beta2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, which are implicated in the nicotine dependence. In Eastern Europe, it has been used for 50 years to aid smoking cessation.
