3-Bromo-1-(3-chloro-2-pyridinyl)-N-[4-cyano-2-methyl-6-[(methylamino)carbonyl]phenyl]-1H-pyrazole-5-carboxamide (Lufenuron) is an insecticide that inhibits the synthesis of chitin, which is the major component of an insects exoskeleton. This drug is used to control insects in agriculture and forestry. Lufenuron acts by disrupting chitin synthesis, which leads to inhibition of moulting and death. Lufenuron has been shown to be effective against a wide range of insect species and has low toxicity to mammals.
