4,4-Dimethoxydibenzoyl (DMDB) is a polymerized polycarboxylic acid that has been shown to have antibacterial activity. DMDB inhibits bacterial growth by catalytic reduction of the sulfhydryl group on cysteine residues in cytochrome c oxidase and other enzymes. DMDB also absorbs UV light, which may be related to its inhibition activity. DMDB is a molecule with two methoxy groups on each benzene ring, forming monomers linked by imidazole derivatives. These monomers can be polymerized into polymers or oligomers with the help of a Grignard reagent.
