Onjisaponin B is a triterpenoid saponin that has been shown to have anti-angiogenic effects, neuroprotective properties, and autophagy inducing activity. Onjisaponin B has also been shown to inhibit the production of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) in cultured PC12 cells. The anti-inflammatory effects of this compound may be due to its ability to induce autophagy. This compound induces autophagy by activating the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway, which leads to the induction of autophagy through the activation of AMP kinase. Onjisaponin B has been found in plants used in traditional Chinese medicine and other Asian countries.
