Alpha-2 Antiplasmin (A2AP) is a serine protease inhibitor (serpin) responsible for inactivating plasmin, an important enzyme that participates in fibrinolysis and degradation of various other proteins. In liver cirrhosis, there is decreased production of alpha-2 antiplasmin, leading to lowered inactivation of plasmin and an increase in fibrinolysis. This is associated with an increase risk of bleeding in liver disease. Synonyms: A2AP, Alpha-2-Antiplasmin, Alpha-2 Antiplasmin Molecular Weight: ~63-70kD Specific Activity: 5IU/mg protein Storage and Stability: Lyophilized and reconstituted products are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20C. Reconstitute with sterile buffer. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
