Prolactin (PRL), also known as luteotropic hormone (LTH), is a neuroendocrine hormone and member of the somatotropin/prolactin family, which is secreted by the anterior pituitary, under the regulation of neuroendocrine neurons in the hypothalamus. The primary function of prolactin is the stimulation of breast development, and promotion of lactation during pregnancy and suckling, but prolactin also exhibits a weak luteotropic effect. Elevated levels of prolactin can be associated with hypothalamic disease, hypothyroidism, kidney disease, chest wall trauma or irritation, and tumors of the pituitary, including prolactinomas. Recombinant protein corresponding to Ovine Prolactin, fused to 6-His at C-terminal, expressed in E. coli. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot, Flow-through. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilutions: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -70C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
