HSD17B11, also known as DHRS8 (dehydrogenase/reductase SDR family member 8), belongs to the HSD17B family of proteins, which regulate the availability of steroids within various tissues throughout the body. It is widely expressed with highest levels found in retina, pancreas, kidney, liver, lung, adrenal, small intestine, ovary and heart as well as in steroidogenic cells. This protein converts androstan-3-alpha,17-beta-diol (3-alpha-diol) to androsterone, suggesting it may participate in androgen metabolism during steroidogenesis. Source: Recombinant protein corresponding to aa20-285 of human HSD17B11, fused to His-tag at N-terminal expressed in E. coli.
