TIGAR, also known as TP53-induced glycolysis and apoptosis regulator, is a 270aa protein induced by the p53 tumor suppressor pathway that functions to protect against oxidative stress. TIGAR specifically functions to block glycolysis, leading the pathway to the pentose phosphate shunt and decreasing the intracellular concentration of reactive oxygen species. These facts indicate that TIGAR may act to modulate the apoptotic response to p53, thereby allowing cells to survive mild or transient stresses. Source: Recombinant protein corresponding to aa1-270 from human TIGAR, fused to His-tag at N-terminal expressed in E. coli.
