UGDH is a member of the UDP-glucose/GDP-mannose dehydrogenase family and is a ubiquitously expressed protein most abundant in the liver. This protein converts UDP-glucose to UDP-glucuronate and thereby participates in the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans such as hyaluronan, chondroitin sulfate, and heparan sulfate. These glycosylated compounds are common components of the extracellular matrix and likely play roles in signal transduction, cell migration, and cancer growth and metastasis. Source: Recombinant protein corresponding to aa1-494 from human uGDH, fused to His-tag at N-terminal, expressed in E. coli. Molecular Weight: ~59.5kD (533aa) Specific Activity: >2500pmol/min/ug, and is defined as the amount of enzyme that convert 1pmole of UDP-glucose to UDP-glucuronate/minute at pH 8.7 and 37C.
