Galectin-7, also known as GAL7, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the LGALS7 gene. This gene is mapped to 19q13.2. Galectins belong to a family of related beta-galactoside-binding lectins, also referred to as S-type or S-Lac lectins. Members of this family have been implicated in a variety of functions, including growth regulation, cell adhesion, migration, neoplastic transformation, and immune responses. Differential and in situ hybridizations indicate that this lectin is specifically expressed in keratinocytes. It has been found that expression of Galectin-7 was markedly upregulated in corneal epithelium after injury and that exogenous galectin-7 stimulated reepithelialization of corneal wounds. Sample Type: Cell culture supernates, serum and plasma (heparin, EDTA) Intended Use: For quantitative detection of human Galectin-7 in cell culture supernates, serum and plasma(heparin, EDTA ). Sensitivity: <10pg/ml Range: 156-10,000pg/ml Specificity: Natural and recombinant human Galectin-7 Test Principle: This human Galectin-7 BioAssay(TM) ELISA Kit was based on standard sandwich enzyme-linked immune-sorbent assay technology. A monoclonal antibody from mouse specific for Galectin-7 has been precoated onto 96-well plates. Standards(E.coli, S2-F136) and test samples are added to the wells, a biotinylated detection polyclonal antibody from goat specific for Galectin-7 is added subsequently and then followed by washing with PBS or TBS buffer. Avidin-Biotin-Peroxidase Complex was added and unbound conjugates were washed away with PBS or TBS buffer. HRP substrate TMB was used to visualize HRP enzymatic reaction. TMB was catalyzed by HRP to produce a blue color product that changed into yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow is proportional to the human Galectin-7 amount of sample captured in plate.
