| Deoxynivalenol (DON), also known as Vomitoxin, belongs to trichothecene and is produced by mould fusarium, growing in grains such as wheat, maize, barley and stover. Because of causing vomitting in porcines, hence the name is Vomitoxin. It has some harmful effects to human body and has been listed as Category III carcinogen by EU classification criteria. In 2011, the limit of Deoxynivalenol residues is 1000ug/kg in grains and grains products in China. Standards or samples are added to the appropriate microtiter plate wells with Deoxynivalenol antibody and Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) conjugated anti-antibody. The competitive inhibition reaction is launched between pre-coated Deoxynivalenol and Deoxynivalenol in standards or samples with the Deoxynivalenol antibody. A substrate solution is added to the wells and the color develops in opposite to the amount of Deoxynivalenol in the standards or samples. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
