Seems to act as a signaling molecule involved in the maintenance of iron homeostasis. Seems to be required in conjunction with HFE to regulate both intestinal iron absorption and iron storage in macrophages Has very strong antibacterial activity against the marine Gram-negative bacteria V.alginolyticus (MIC=24uM), V.fluvialis, V.harveyis (MIC=12uM) and V.parahaemolyticus (MIC=6uM). Has antibacterial activity against the Gram-negative bacteria A.hydrophila (MIC=6uM), E.coli (MIC=24uM), and E.coli BL21(DE3)plysS (MIC=6uM), and the Gram-positive bacteria B.cereus (MIC=24uM), B.subtilis (MIC=6uM), C.glutamicum (MIC=3uM), M.luteus (MIC=3uM), M.lysodeikticus, S.aureus (MIC=6uM) and S.epidermis (MIC=12uM). Possesses antifungal activity against A.niger (MIC=24uM), F.graminearum (MIC=24uM) and F.solani (MIC=24uM), but lacks antifungal activity against the yeasts P.pastoris GS115 and C.albicans. Source: Recombinant protein corresponding to aa65-85 from larimichthys crocea Hepcidin, expressed in E. coli. Molecular Weight: ~2.5kD AA Sequence: RCRFCCRCCPRMRGCGICCRF Storage and Stability: Lyophilized and reconstituted products are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
