Gram-negative pleomorphic cells, spherical to ovoid shaped, single tripled-layered membrane, but lacking true cell wall. Causes lower respiratory infections, less often a pharyngitis progressing to bronchitis or pneumoniae, gradual onset with headache, malaise, paroxysmal cough, substernal pain, leucocytosis in some cases. Duration varies from a few days to a month or more. Low fatality. Source: Mycoplasma pneumoniae, strain FH, from Broth base medium Applications: Suitable for use in both IgG and IgM detection in assays which include EIA with polystyrene and latex solid phases. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Inactivation: Detergent inactivation by lysis. Storage and Stability: Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -70C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.

Mycoplasma organisms are harvested by centrifugation, washed in PBS and extracted using non-ionic detergent-containing buffer.
