RSV is a paramxyoviridae, pleomorphic, 150 -300 nm diameter, enveloped virions, single stranded linear RNA, non-segmented negative sense genome, lack hemagglutinin and neuraminidase activities. Most common cause of common cold-like respiratory tract illness in infants and young children, causes colds in adults, febrile bronchitis in infants and older children, pneumonia in infants, and bronchiolitis in very young babies, reinfection common and results in upper respiratory infection. Source: RSV, strain Long, from Vero cells Applications: Suitable for use in for both IgG and IgM detection in assays which include EIA with polystyrene and latex solid phases. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Inactivation: RSV antigen is inactivated using gamma radiation. This procedure is effective primarily by damaging viral genetic material. Storage and Stability: Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -70C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
Purity: Optimally infected cells are disrupted by sonication and then subjected to low speed centrifugation. The clarified cell lysate is pooled with supernatant from the infected culture.
Form: Supplied as a liquid in HEPES, magnesium sulphate.
