2-Amino-5-nitroso-4,6-pyrimidinediol is used as a reagent in the synthesis of 6-amino-2,3-dimethylpyrimido[4,5-e][1,2,4]triazine-8-one as an inhibitor of dihydropteridine reductase (DHPR). 2-Amino-5-nitroso-4,6-pyrimidinediol is also used in analytical studies for determination of ruthenium and transition metals.
