2-Deoxy-N4-methylcytidine is a modified nucleoside that is used to inhibit the activity of protein kinases. It has been shown to inhibit the function of two different types of enzymes, eukaryotic protein kinase and bacterial RNA polymerase. 2-Deoxy-N4-methylcytidine inhibits the activity of these enzymes by modifying their structure, which in turn prevents them from carrying out their normal functions. This modification can be achieved through deamination or protonation reactions with this drug. The effects of this drug are nonparametric and are observed at transcript levels.
