3,4-Epoxycyclopentanone is used as a reactant in the enantioselective synthesis of (silyloxy)cyclopentenone via catalytic epoxide ring opening. Also used in asymmetric preparation of hydroxycyclopentenones by cinchona alkaloid-catalyzed desymmetrization/fragmentation of epoxycyclopentanones.
