AD-mix-beta is a catalyst employed in the Sharpless Asymmetric Dihyroxylation of (E,E)- or (E,Z)-1,3-dienoates. It is also used in the preparation of ß-hydroxy-gamma-lactones from ß,gamma-unsaturated esters.
