Sodium tetrafluoroborate is a compound that has a thermal expansion coefficient of 1.2x10-5 K-1 and is soluble in water. It has been used as a catalyst for the synthesis of organic compounds, as well as in the manufacture of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and dyes. Sodium tetrafluoroborate has been shown to have physiological effects at high concentrations by inhibiting DNA replication and protein synthesis. This compound also inhibits the production of immune system cells and is able to suppress autoimmune diseases. Sodium tetrafluoroborate has been used as an electrolyte in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy to study hydrogen bonding interactions with other molecules, such as benzalkonium chloride or sodium citrate.
