Isolated from tomatoes, affinity-purified Lycopersicon esculentum lectin (LEL/LEA) has a carbohydrate specificity toward GlcNac. Composed of a single stable subunit, LEL is a useful marker of tracking vasculature in rodents and in neuroscience research. This lectin has an unusually high carbohydrate content of about 50 percent arabinose and galactose. LEL is non-specific agglutinates human erythrocytes A, B, O, or AB blood types. Protease-treated erythrocytes are slightly more sensitive to agglutination by this lectin. Source: Tomato Carbohydrate Specificity: beta (1,4)-linked-N-Acetylglucosamine Inhibitory Carbohydrate: Chitin Hydrolysate Mitogenic Activity: No Activity: 50-60ug/ml will agglutinate type O human erythrocytes. 5-10ug/ml will agglutinate neuraminidase treated cells. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized and reconstituted products are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20C. Reconstitute with sterile buffer or ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
