Salinamide A is a rare depsipeptide first reported as a metabolite of a marine actinomycete by Trischman and coworkers, Scripps Institute of Oceanography, USA in 1994. Salinamide A has antiinflammatory and antibacterial activity. Salinamide A inhibits bacterial RNA polymerase, by binding to the RNAP bridge-helix cap and preventing conformational changes of the bridge-helix N-terminal hinge necessary for nucleotide addition. Salinamides were patented in 2017 as antibacterial agents. Source: Streptomyces sp.
