Viriditoxin is a pigment isolated from a range of fungal species including Aspergillus, Cladosporium, Spicaria and a marine-derived Paecilomyces. Viriditoxin activates ATP hydrolysis and swelling in rat liver mitochondria. Viriditoxin exhibits antibacterial activity against Streptococcus iniae and Streptococcus parauberis, major pathogens of aqua-cultured fish, postulated to be via inhibition of FtsZ polymerization.
