Aspterric acid is a novel sesquiterpene first isolated from Aspergillus terreus by Tsuda and co-workers, Kanazawa University, Japan in 1978. Aspterric acid inhibits pollen development in Arabidopsis thaliana. Co-application of indole-3-acetic acid and aspterric acid results in the recovery of normal pollen development. Aspterric acid was identified as a herbicide using a resistance-gene-directed genome mining strategy by Tang and co-workers in 2018. Aspterric acid is a potent inhibitor of dihydroxy-acid dehydratase. Source: Penicillium sp.
