Ariestatin A is a major component of a parallel series of analogues of aquastatin A, a metabolite previously isolated from Fusarium aquaeductuum and re-isolated from the fungus Austroacremonium gemini. Ariestatin A is a lower homologue (C13 side-chain) of aquastatin A (C15 side-chain). Ariestatin A exhibits potent antibacterial activity against antibiotic-susceptible and resistant strains and no cytotoxic activity.
