Plant Grade Agar is a complex polysaccharide extracted from certain marine algae of the class Rhodophyceae. It meets the European Community Directive (ECD) as well as with the specifications of the US Food Chemi cal Codex (FCC). Plant Grade Agar is the most used gelling agent in plant cultivation. It is used in a wide range of concentrations, the most common being 6-10g/L Once dissolved, and after cooling to 34-38C, it gels remaining solid until temperatures of 65C and returns to the liquid state at temperatures of approximately 85-90C. This temperature difference in the phase change is a property called hysteresis.
