S-adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase belongs to the adenosylhomocysteinase family. It catalyzes the reversible hydrolysis of S-adenosylhomocysteine (AdoHcy) to adenosine (Ado) and L-homocysteine (Hcy). Thus, it regulates the intracellular S-adenosylhomocysteine (SAH) concentration thought to be important for transmethylation reactions. Deficiency in this protein is one of the different causes of hypermethioninemia. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. AHCY deficiency is one of the causes of hypermethioninemia, a rare disease affecting brain development and muscle strength. Down-regulation of AHCY is also associated with certain forms of cancer, Huntingtons disease and Wilsons disease. Source: Recombinant corresponding to aa2-end of human AHCY with N-terminal GST tag expressed in E. coli (NM_000687). Applications: Suitable for use in enzyme kinetics, inhibitor screening and selectivity profiling. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -70C. Aliquots are stable for at least 6 months at -70C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
