Bile Salts Mixture 3 is a mixture of sodium cholate and deoxycholate derived from liver. Its primary use is as a selective agent for the isolation of gram-negative microorganisms, inhibiting gram-positive cocci. It is soluble in distilled or dionized water and neutral to slightly alkaline. Appearance: White, free flowing, homogeneous free-flowing powder Solubility (1 or 2%): Colorless to light amber clear, complete Sodium Cholate: 45-55% Sodium Deoxycholate: 45-55% Loss on Drying: 5% pH (1%): 7.5-8.5 pH (2%): 7.5-9.0 Storage and Stability: Store powder at RT. Opened bottles should be capped tightly and kept in a dark, low humidity environment. Prepared solution should be kept at 4C and used within a short period of time.
