VR1 (vanilloid receptor 1) is an ion channel activated by capsaicin, the pungent ingredient in hot peppers, and by noxious thermal heat. It is expressed by and isolated from nociceptive sensory neurons. Sequence analysis suggests that VR1 has transmembrane domains and intracellular N- and C-termini. It shares structural similarities with the family of putative store-operated calcium channels. It is thought to function as a transducer of noxious thermal stimuli and have involvement in inflammatory pain. Amino Acid Sequence (linear): H-Cys-Glu-Asp-Ala-Glu-Val-Phe-Lys-Asp-Ser-Met-Ala-Pro-Gly-Glu-Lys-OH Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20C. Reconstitute to nominal volume (see reconstitution instructions for peptides) and store at -20C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
