Cathepsin B is a cysteine protease commonly overexpressed in metastisizing cancer cells. An intracellular (lysosomal) enzyme in peptidase family C1 (papain family), Cathepsin B will hydrolyze proteins with broad specificity for peptide bonds. Preferentially cleaves -Arg-Arg bonds in small molecule substrates (thus differing from cathepsin L). In addition to being an endopeptidase, shows peptidyl-dipeptidase activity, liberating C-terminal dipeptides. Specific Activity: 10u/mg enzyme activity Unit Definition: One unit is defined as the amount of enzyme that will hydrolyze 1.0umol Z-RR-pNA per min at 37C, pH 6.8 in the presence of DTT. Note: One unit defined by Z-RR-pNA equals ~20 units defined with Z-RR-betaNA. Major Bands: 25-27kD, 30-33kD Storage and Stability: Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -70C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
