Factor P is a 53kD glycosylated protein present in blood serum. Factor P binds to microbial surfaces and binds and stabilizes the complement component 3- and complement component 5-convertase enzyme complexes. C3b then acts as an opsonin or initiates the complement pathway again creating a positive feedback loop which acts only on the bacterial cell, leaving the host cells unharmed. Deficiency of factor P makes the host more susceptible to bacterial infections, particularly to Neisseria species and meningococcal infections. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA, Functional Assays, Flow Cytometry, Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilutions: Immunohistochemistry: Frozen sections Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Recommended Positive Control: Kidney from post strepoccal glomerulonephritis patients Storage and Stability: Store product at 4C if to be used immediately within two weeks. For long-term storage, aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -20C. Aliquots are stable at -20C for 12 months after receipt. Dilute required amount only prior to immediate use. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Note: Applications are based on unconjugated antibody.
