Dextran Sulfate (MW > 500,000) is used as an additive in probe hybridization solutions. Its presence accelerates the rate of hybridization by 10 fold. The addition of Dextran Sulfate favors the formation of probe networks, resulting in greater sensitivity during membrane-bound nucleic acid analysis. The product is supplied as a 50% liquid. A 50% dextran sulfate solution in water filtered through a 20um membrane and autoclaved prior to bottling in clean, sterilized bottles containing no preservatives. Liquid solution is dark brown from autoclaving. CAS No: 9011-18-1 Molecular Weight: ~500kD Appearance: Tan to yellow, slighty turbid liquid RNase, DNase: None Detected Sterility: Pass/Fail APHA: 1:10 Water: Molecular Biology Grade, USBio Cat No W0900 Applications: Suitable for use as a hybridization accelerator, specifically when preparing rare sequences by Northern or Southern Blots and the rate of hybridization is very slow. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4C. For long-term storage, aliquot and store at 4C. Product should be warmed to RT prior to use. Do not freeze. Aliquots are stable for 12 month after receipt.
