Ebola virus disease (EVD), formerly known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is a severe, often fatal illness in humans. EVD outbreaks occur primarily in remote villages in Central and West Africa, near tropical rainforests where humans come into contact with dead infected animals such as fruit bats, monkeys and antelope. The virus can then spread from human to human. According to WHO, EVD outbreaks have a case fatality rate of up to 90%. Ebola first appeared in 1976 in 2 simultaneous outbreaks, one in Nzara, Sudan, and the secondin Yambuku, Democratic Republic of Congo, in a village situated near the Ebola River. This is where thedisease takes its name. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot, and Immunoassays. Other applications not tested.
