FGF-6 is a secreted, heparin-binding growth factor that is a member of the FGF family. Proteins of this family play a central role during prenatal development, postnatal growth and regeneration of a variety of tissues, by promoting cellular proliferation and differentiation. FGF-6 is expressed in leukemia cell lines with platelet megakaryocytic differentiation potential. It signals through FGFR 1c, 2c, and 4. Recombinant Human FGF-6 is an 18.7kD protein consisting of 168 amino acid residues. Recombinant protein corresponding to 168aa from human Fibroblast Growth Factor 6, expressed in E. coli. Biological Activity: Determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake by BaF3 cells expressing FGF receptors. The expected ED50 is 0.5ng/ml corresponding to a specific activity of 2x10e6 units/mg. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
