Galactose oxidase (GAO) produced by the fungus Dactylium dendroides is used in the quantitative determination of galactose in blood and other biological fluids. Because GAO oxidizes galactose even in polysaccharides it has been used to locate galactose histochemically and to detect and distinguish glycoproteins. Activity: 30Units per dry weight Catalase: As Reported Absorbance (A280): As Reported Unit Definition: 1 unit equals a change in absorbance at 425nm of 1.0 per minute at 25C, pH 6.0, in a coupled peroxidase/o-tolidine system, using galactose as a substrate. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20C. Stable for 6 months after receipt at -20C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
